Essex Mini-League 2025 - Round 3

Harwich Swimming Club travelled to Dagenham on Saturday to compete in round 3 of the Essex Mini League, competing against Barking & Dagenham, Brentwood, City of Southend and Woodham. The team was largely inexperienced and young but did not disappoint in their effort and enthusiasm with some swimmers competing in older age groups.
Finn Muldoon kicked off the first places in the 11 & under 50m backstroke, in a new personal best time of 42.32. Menna Beegan swam well in the open 50m butterfly, finishing in first place in a personal best time of 35.50. Autumn Feeley-Headley, swimming in her first team gala, acquitted herself well in the 10 & under freestyle, securing a solid first place, closely followed by Herbie Pickersgill in the boys event, claiming maximum points and breaking the 40 second barrier for a new personal best time of 39.44.
Sister Tabitha was next to get the top spot in the 13 & under breaststroke. The open girls 4 x 2 x 1 freestyle team are unbeaten over the last 2 rounds and again did not disappoint. With Poppy Tilley and Gabby Williams joining teammates Katie Holmes and Menna Beegan, they gave a perfect display of relay swimming, comfortably securing first place.
Maximum points from the boys butterfly squadron relay team and the girls 11 & under freestyle relay ensured that Harwich were laying a close second at the halfway point, just behind Brentwood.
After that, first places came thick and fast. Amelia Waterman claimed first place in the 10 & under 25m butterfly, closely followed by Thomas Mackintosh in the boys event. Rosie Hazelton and Oliver Scrivener both gained maximum points in the 11 & under 50m butterfly.
After that the girls and boys squadron breaststroke relay teams both finished fast and in the top spots. Nancy Garner claimed first place in the 13 & under 50m butterfly in a new personal best time of 37.62.
Three relay firsts closely followed this. The boys 10 & under freestyle relay team and the girls and boys 13 & under relay teams all scored maximum points. Oliver Pickersgill followed this up with a fine first place in the boys open 50m breaststroke event.
Some 16 personal bests were achieved in this excellent gala proving how much the club’s swimmers are improving and working hard.
These great results ensured that Harwich overtook Brentwood and finally finished some 20 points ahead.
