Hugo Qualifies for National Championships 2025

15 year old Hugo Arthey has been working hard to chase his dream of qualifying for the National Championships. This year he qualified for the Essex Championships in many events. He placed 3rd in Essex in his favoured event, the 200m backstroke.

Since then, through hard work and commitment, he qualified for the Regional Championships in April/May in 200m Individual Medley and 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke. From January to May, Hugo cut a whopping 7 seconds off his 200m backstroke time and this ensured he achieved his dream — qualifying for the National Championships this summer.

This makes him the first national qualifier Harwich has had since Laura Stephens back in 2012 (current World Champion in the 200m butterfly). Harwich Swimming Club are incredibly proud of Hugo, who is very deserving of his success.

Hugo works incredibly hard in all of his sessions and so far – every goal he has set his mind to, he has managed to achieve through his hard work and focus. We look forward to seeing how he does at the National Championships.
